Therapy with Marquette

Sioux Falls therapist, Marquette Brandner, believes that each stage of one’s life presents new challenges.

For many, these challenges can be an impetus for change and growth. For others, it can create roadblocks. Recognizing that you are at an impasse can be the key to opening yourself up to life’s possibilities. Emotional vulnerabilities, self-doubt, circular thinking, and recurring negative and judgmental thoughts can all be overcome when one feels understood and accepted. Marquette helps clients explore concerns, develop new skill sets, and implement realistic strategies for positive change in their lives.

With over 6 years of experience and specialized training working with ages 9 and up, Marquette understands that with the right support system and therapeutic approach, one can discover patterns and overcome their roadblocks and challenges. As a mental health professional who has received specialized training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Marquette brings her knowledge to help educate her clients on skills to provide more emotional stability in their lives. She also helps clients work through traumatic events to decrease the impact those events have on their day to day life.

Life is about possibilities. Feeling that there are possibilities gives one hope that life will get better. Yet often, one can become stuck in a maze of negative beliefs about themselves and their abilities. At the initial appointment, Marquette will assess and through mutual discussion will determine what is the best course of action to reach your goals with the background and education that she has acquired.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Whether it is from our genetics or how we were raised, struggling with emotional dysregulation creates suffering and pushes loved ones away. DBT is a way to work through those emotions by utilizing mindfulness and other coping skills. DBT skills will decrease distress and improve relationships with those around you.

Addiction

As a licensed addiction counselor and someone who has seen the effects of addiction personally, it is crucial that we have support through this as we cannot do it alone. Marquette views addiction that it is almost always a co-occurring issue so it is important to not solely focus on the aspects of staying sober, but rather mental health as a whole.

Trauma Work

We carry our interpretations of past trauma throughout our life without realization of the impact it has on our day-to-day functioning. Unpacking our trauma in a safe space can help unleash the pain and negative thoughts we’ve held about ourselves for many years. The interventions Marquette utilizes include talk-therapy, trauma narratives and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
